athletics training camp in mallorca(majorca)

Report on 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2014 Training Camps Majorca

2010
A fantastic 4 weeks throughout April awaited the athletes who travelled out to Majorca for the inaugural ´Training Camp Majorca'. Clubs including Marshall Milton Keynes, Thames Valley Harriers, City of Portsmouth AC and individuals from all over the UK made use of the wonderful facilities and weather that training Camp Majorca offers. Athletes from all disciplines sunned themselves whilst taking instruction from their own coaches. Our resident coaches were on hand and delighted to offer additional guidance on some of the more technical throws events, and to hold the stopwatch for the group sessions.

Not only did everyone fully utilise the facilities at the track, but the hotel provided an excellent environment for bonding. Well prepared evening meals buffet style offering a fantastic variety of menu. Fresh fruit, vegetables and at least 5 main course choices every evening with soup or salad to start, all rounded off with a fabulous array of puddings including many peoples favourites the apple crumble and bread and butter pudding washed down with custard - sometimes both on the same night!   A good breakfast too provided a good fuel source for the days training. The young groups enjoyed a lunchtime meal too. The restaurant wasn't the only place that offered great enjoyment - the two pools (one indoor), sunbathing facilities, and evening entertainment programme kept everyone busy. as well as that there were the organised events put on by the ´Training Camp Majorca´ staff - quiz, speed pool, videos, and of course World cup Table Football! Word will spread regarding Training Camp Majorca and we look forward to welcoming returning groups of athletes, clubs and individuals not to mention triathletes and Personal Trainers with their clients.

2011
The 2011 'Training Camp Majorca' built on the success of the first Camp held just one year before. Athletes from Elite Performance Services, Ribble Valley AC, Newham and Essex Beagles, Belgrave Harriers, Woking, and City of Portsmouth all made good use of the facilites. Some Clubs stayed for 2 weeks fully acclimatising to the wonderful weather that Majorca had to offer in April. Others were able to join us for a week, but all made good use of the fantastic facilities that we had on offer. In addition some triathletes joined us for the first time and they enjoyed not only the athletics track but also a day with the Stephen Roache Cycling school - a cycling tactics discussion followed by an 85 Kilometre bike ride with our specialist coach Franck. As well as what you could term 'serious athletes' from Athletic Clubs, we also had a number of Social Runners who whilst perhaps running at a slower pace, also treat their sport with equally high regard. Certainly they helped to bring the fun element to the fore and to create a great atmosphere within the hotel. Meal times were again the chance for all to catch up with the events of the day. Our 'Games evening' provided an opportunity too for all to get acquainted and our quiz, speed pool, air hockey and Premier League Table Football competitions went down very well. A truly great time away and we anticipate a huge upsurge in bookings for later in 2011 (from September) and again for 2012.Thanks to all those who joined us in April 2011.

2012
A tremendous time away with groups from West Hatch High School, Enfield & Haringey AC, City of Portsmouth AC and several social runners who had previously travelled with 'Running Crazy Ltd' - the parent company of Training Camp Majorca. All made good use of the athletic facilities, and for some of the school group, the nearby tennis courts too. Both hotels that we use were outstanding with great facilities and wonderful food. Probably best to let our clients tell you what they thought:

Frank Adams (Coach New River Sprint Squad - Enfield & Haringey AC) The standard of accommodation was ideal for the group, as was the nearness to beach and availability of an indoor swimming pool. The buffet dining arrangement was ideally suited for the varied tastes of the group, as well as the quantities needed by some! The whole group were impressed with the track facilities and it was clear that other disciplines would be equally well catered for. Almost all of the group were students with limited funds, so that nights out were not planned and most made their own entertainment. Overall, an enjoyable trip which remains a topic of conversation in training sessions at home, and there is a wish to return. Thanks for your support and assistance during our week in Majorca.

Jon Redding (Head of PE at West Hatch High School, East London) I have just had the photos developed and will be making a big display board at school for the kids and staff to see what a great time we had. The whole trip was great!   It was really nice of Gerry and Helen to meet us at the airport and we all thought the hotel was fantastic. The rooms were great, the food awesome and the location perfect. The track and the tennis courts were ideal and perfectly suited to our needs. The fact that we were able to do some other activities during the day and the evening, like the bike ride, the trip to Palma, bowling and the speed pool/table football activities evening, was really good and helped us out in terms of keeping the kids active all the time. We had a fantastic time and would love to go back to Majorca next year.

2014
A great success in 2014 with groups from schools and Athletic Clubs (Gateshead, Colchester, Portsmouth, Horsham and Livingston) making up the majority of those who joined us here. The weather was kind too and the sun shone everyday for 3 weeks!

Our groups enjoyed their hotel surroundings - the school children in their 3 star great value accommodation with a block for the girls, and a block next door for the boys. An opportunity to use the outside pool everyday was too tempting for most - especially after the rigours of training. Our 15 years plus athletes stayed in a 4* hotel with great views over the beach. Stunning sunrises and sunsets at mealtimes from the restaurant - quality food on a buffet basis too.

As well as the athletes who utilised the track twice a day, we also had a number of Social Runners join us and there were expeditions to the nearby trails. Individuals as well as small groups from Clubs including Stockport AC, Brighton Belles, Epsom, Portsmouth, Wolverhampton and Southend. All thoroughly enjoyed a varied training regime with a number of different terrains. All great fun!
